The Drôme Vercors

Between nature and history: vast, wild spaces.

Nature that stays wild

The gîte sits in the heart of the Vercors Regional Nature Park, in the Drôme Vercors: vast spaces where nature and history meet.

The Vercors High Plateaux National Nature Reserve can be reached from Saint-Agnan (La Coche car park). No permanent dwelling or road crosses it: it is the largest land-based nature reserve in mainland France, and the natural heart of the Park.

And when night falls, look up: the sky and the stars are part of the scenery.

Fir forest under snow

Four seasons

Spring

Hiking comes back into its own, and some trails start right from the gîte. Foraging, bike rides and the first mountain-bike outings.

Summer

Wide-open spaces, climbing, canyoning, caving. And in the evening the stone house stays pleasantly cool, even in the heat.

Autumn

The forests turn to fire and the trails are quiet. Hiking, foraging and evenings by the stove.

Winter

Sledging, snowshoeing and skiing: the Font d’Urle and Herbouilly ski areas are about twenty minutes from the gîte.
